Newsletters 2016

The British Social Club of Marbella (BSC)
December 2016 Newsletter of this informal friendship group.

It is with sadness that I must advise you that during the month both Ann Gray any Les Ramsay died. Both our friends will be sadly missed and our sincere condolences go to their friends and families.

Our thanks go to Norma for arranging Christmas cards and presents to be given, on behalf of BSC, to our currently infirm friends. Jean Lord has asked that you all be thanked for the gift she received.

The November monthly lunch was held on Thursday 24th November at Angolinos Restaurant. Although the meal was appreciated by those who attended the seating arrangement was very cramped and not terribly convenient. In my opinion, the inside dinning space is fine for a small number of dinners but not for a group of our size. During the lunch time, we presented to Ana Ortega Cruz, President, Marbella Voluntarios €1000 from BAM funds. Marbella Voluntarios are to use the money to make up baskets of Christmas food to distribute to needy families and senior citizens in Marbella. Subsequently, we have received formal notification that the money has been deposited into the bank of Marbella Voluntarios.

The Special Christmas lunch, consisting of all 4 starters, traditional Christmas Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, dessert, mince pies, wine and coffee was held at the San Cristobal restaurant on Thursday December 15th. Like the quiz, created by Joan, the whole event was a great success enjoyed by all who attended.

The January monthly lunch is to be held on Thursday 26th January at Sirocco Restaurant, formerly the Puerto Azul. Please advise Angret or Joan if you are likely to want to attend.

Yutta continues to have up to date information of trips and cultural events for all who wish to contact her. She has details on Salon Varietes Christmas events for the next month or two.

Our BSC coffee mornings will be held in the library/TV room at the San Cristobal Hotel every Wednesday morning between 11am and 12pm until further notice.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year.

Our first monthly lunch held on the Mantra restaurant on Thursday 24th October received mixed reviews with issues relating to the noise and food quality.

The November monthly lunch is to be held on Thursday 24th November at Angolinos Restaurant. It is being organised by Joan H who has negotiated a price of €16, which includes a drink and tip. Please let Joan know if you wish to attend. As usual, the lunch will be 1.30pm for 2.00pm. During the lunch time, we will present to Ana Ortega Cruz, President, Marbella Voluntarios €1000 from BAM funds. Marbella Voluntarios are to use the money to make up baskets of Christmas food to distribute to needy families and senior citizens in Marbella.

Reminder, by popular request, the Special Christmas lunch, consisting of all 4 starters, traditional Christmas Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, desserts of choice, wine and coffee will be held at the San Cristobal restaurant on Thursday December 15th at 1.30pm for 2.00pm. The price to include everything and the tip is €35. Please let Joan J know if you are interested in attending.

The January monthly lunch is to be held on Thursday 26th January at Sirocco Restaurant, formerly the Puerto Azul. More details will be issued in a latter newsletter.

Yutta continues to have up to date information of trips and cultural events for all who wish to contact her. She is currently getting details on Salon Varietes Christmas events.

THE BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF MARBELLA – BAM

NEWSLETTER October 2016

The October monthly lunch was held in the San Cristobal restaurant on Wednesday 28th September, immediately after the BAM AGM was held in the TV/library room of the hotel. As usual the choice of menu was extremely varied and was very enjoyable for the members that attended.

During the lunch BAM presented €1000 to ASPANDEM. This was gratefully received on behalf of ASPANDEM by Ricardo A. Garcia Moro Director General, ASPANDEM. The money is to be spent on purchasing a special adjustable height stretcher that will allow staff to perform personal hygiene functions for all students, irrespective of physical size, at ASPANDEM.

At the BAM AGM it was agreed and ratified unaminuously, by all members attending the AGM, that due to the non-compliance of formal legal requirements since 1992 that the British Association of Marbella would be dissolved as from Wednesday 28th September 2016.
Remaining funds would be donated to Marbella Charities in coming months, with all current members notified of the occasions. The next such event is to be held on Thursday 24th November at a location yet to be agreed, when it is planned to present Voluntarios Marbella with €1000. All historical records, etc., are to be kept by Norma.

Our thanks go to all members who have contributed to make the activities of BAM such a success over the past 26 years. We trust that will remain friends and have the opportunity to meet in an informal way in the future.

NEWSLETTER July 2016
The June monthly lunch was held at the Alemada restaurant in the San Cristobal hotel on Thursday 30th June. As usual the choice of menu was extremely varied and was very enjoyable for the members and guests that attended. Thanks go to Joan for arranging everything.
The next BAM monthly lunch will be held at the Hong Kong restaurant on Thursday 28th July.  The cost for the special multi plate menu arranged by Violette, which does not include a drink, but does have an inclusive staff tip, will be €15. Please note that non-members will be charged €17.  To ensure your place please contact Violette at a Wednesday coffee morning session with €10 deposit. The lunch, as usual, will commence with arrival at 1.30pm for lunch at 2.00pm.
Reminder: At the BAM Committee meeting held on 1st June it was agreed that although the weekly Wednesday coffee morning meetings would continue through the month there would not be an August BAM monthly lunch.

THE BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF MARBELLA – BAM

NEWSLETTER June 2016

The May monthly lunch was held at the Sirocco restaurant on Thursday 26th May. At that event acknowledgement of the BAM Charitable Donation for 2015 of €400 was presented to Ana Ortega Cruz, President, Marbella Voluntarios.  The event, like the food, was very enjoyable for the members and guests that attended. Thanks go to Violette for arranging everything.

The next BAM monthly lunch will be held at the Alemada restaurant in the San Cristobal hotel on Thursday 30th June  Please contact Joan, 952 835 947, by Friday 24th June, to book your place for the lunch. The cost for the menu del dia, which includes a drink, and staff tip will be €14.50. The lunch, as usual, will commence with arrival at 1.30pm for lunch at 2.00pm. Please note that non-members will be charged €16.50.

The trip to Estepona to visit the Orchidarium on Thursday morning, 26th May was most enjoyable. Thanks go to Joan for arranging the excursion, etc. Having the BAM monthly lunch following directly afterwards was an excellent situation.

It is likely that the BAM monthly lunch for July will be at the Gaspar restaurant; however this is not yet confirmed.

At the BAM Committee meeting held on 1st June it was agreed that although the weekly Wednesday coffee morning meetings would continue through the month there would not be an August BAM monthly lunch.

The BAM AGM will be held on 28th September in the San Cristobal Library followed by lunch in the restaurant of the hotel.

Having visited the Junta de Andalucía, Malaga, it has come to our attention that although BAM was originally registered as an Association in 1991, with changes in the law in 2001, without extensive past authorised accounts and past Junta endorsements updating the status of BAM to that of a lawful recognised association is impossible. Creating a new formal association requires much initial work and would require annually the President, Secretary and Treasurer to present accounts to the Hacienda and Ayuntamiento. With this situation it was unanimously agreed by all the current BAM Committee members that we would dispose of €3000 to 3 charities in the Marbella area and then continue to meet as before as an informal group.
After an initial ballot eight organisations were considered to receive a donation. Finally it was agreed that, over the next month or so, Age Concern, Aspandem and Marbella Voluntarios would each receive €1000. Information on presentations, etc. will be issued in a timely manner.
